23 Feb -Accounting Standards for Nonprofits
As a result of recent changes in accounting standards, Not for Profit Organizations (NPO's) may report under several financial reporting frameworks:
- International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
- CICA Handbook: Accounting Part III - Accounting Standards for NPOs; or,
- CICA Public Sector Accounting Standards (for public sector entities only)
This workshop will cover the following topics:
- Discussion of NPOs and their main characteristics;
- Discussion of the financial reporting frameworks available for NPOs and transition considerations associated with each framework ;
- Financial reporting for NFPOs;
- Deferral method vs. restricted fund method
- Discussion of the main financial reporting issues for NPOs, such as contributed materials and services, contributions receivable, capital assets and disclosure of allocated expenses;
- Audit of NFPOs
- Main differences between the audits of NPOs and those of profit-oriented entities
- Significant issues and difficulties that your auditors may encounter
