Who they are
Safe Community Wood Buffalo (SCWB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting wellness and injury reduction/prevention in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. SCWB works with a wide range of sstakeholders to work towards the goal of safe and healthy living 24/7.

Community Engagement
As well as being involved at a community level, SCWB chairs two committees that are comprised of industry, business, non-profits & community members: The Childhood Injury Prevention Committee and the Road Safety Wood Buffalo Committee.
The Childhood Injury Prevention Committee:
Identifies and coordinates childhood injury prevention & education opportunities in the region such as Family Safety Day, rural bike rodeos, off-highway vehicle public education sessions, helmet fitting session, and school safety talks. In 2009 over 4500 children were reached with safety messages.
The Road Safety Committee:
Identifies traffic issues and promotes safer roadways through the RoadWatch on the Move campaign which won the National Safe Communities Canada Award of Excellence in 2008. In 2009 the Road Safety Committee launched a local road safety web-site, (click logo to go to their website) identified and placed signage at the high collision intersections, conducted “Winter Driving” presentations throughout the community, and has been involved with positive ticketing in conjunction with RCMP check stops. These activities continued in 2010.
