Q. What’s the purpose of Nonprofit Sector Link?
A. The goals of Sector Link include:
• Create opportunities for organizations to develop practical solutions to enhance and improve human resource management practices
• Build the capacity of sector organizations to engage in partnerships and collaborations through education, dialogue and resource sharing
• Foster an environment of innovation to improve longer term sustainability of the sector and its organizations
• Develop a voice for the sector at the community decision-making table
• Develop systems and resources to facilitate leadership and professional development within the Wood Buffalo Nonprofit sector with an emphasis on emerging leaders
Q. Who does Sector Link consist of?
A. We have a board of 10 community leaders who represent a broad spectrum of the nonprofit sector, from sports & recreation, arts & culture, and social services. We also have a project manager.
Q. What’s the focus of Sector Link?
A. Our Strategy is to develop a framework and processes to enable sustainable
capacity-building and collaborative advocacy for the Wood Buffalo
nonprofit sector
Q. How many nonprofits are there?
A. In Alberta there are over 19,000 nonprofit & voluntary organizations. Close to 42% have a paid workforce, with a total of over 105,000 paid employees, excluding hospitals and universities. In Wood Buffalo we have approximately 250 nonprofit & voluntary organizations, with close to a quarter of that number having paid staff.
